Weed Control and Fertilization

Primary Areas of Service

We mainly service Alabaster, Helena, Hoover and Pelham.

What’s included in your service?

We offer a seven application lawn treatment program that includes both pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control applications along with slow-release fertilizers to promote growth and lime to balance pH for optimal lawn growth.

When it comes to weed control, there are two primary types of weed control treatments. Pre-emergent weed control targets early growth by preventing weeds from taking root at the beginning of the season. Pre-emergent weed control is often the key for long-lasting lawn health.

Post-emergent weed control targets lawn weeds that have sprung up since the initial pre-emergent lawn treatment. Stray weed seeds can take root in your lawn no matter how vigilant you are. Our weed service ensures that your lawn stays lush and green all season long.

No-Contract Required

There is no contract or commitment with our service, but we are a continuing service.  This means that once you're on the schedule we will keep treating the lawn from one year into the next unless you tell us otherwise - which you can do any time you like.

 Application Schedule

We are a small business and must implement strategies to complete the daily work in the most efficient manner possible. That means we group homes by neighborhood and treat the lawns in each neighborhood on the same day every week. We will establish a specific day for your yard at the beginning of the treatment season and you can expect that your yard will be treated on that day throughout the year. We do not take specific treatment day requests.

A full season of lawn care includes 7 applications as described below:

Application #1 – January/February:  First round of Pre-emergent herbicide is placed on the lawn before the weeds start to grow. This stops weeds in their tracks before they have a chance to grow. By applying pre-emergent in the late winter or early spring, you will have less of a problem with weeds as the year progresses. Post-emergent herbicide is also applied at this time to treat existing broadleaf weeds.

Application #2 – March/April:  Apply second round of Pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides.

Application #3 – April/May:   Apply first round of slow-release granular fertilizer to promote green growth and healthy plant roots. Spot treat broadleaf and grassy weeds using post-emergent herbicide.

Application #4 – June/July:  Apply second round of slow-release granular fertilizer to promote green growth and healthy plant roots. Spot treat broadleaf and grassy weeds using post-emergent herbicide.

Application #5 – August/September:  Apply third round of slow-release granular fertilizer to promote green growth and healthy plant roots. Spot treat broadleaf and grassy weeds using post-emergent herbicide.

Application #6 – September/October:  Apply Fall pre-emergent designed to control cool-season weeds that would appear in your lawn during the winter and early spring months. Spot treat broadleaf and grassy weeds using post-emergent herbicide

Application #7 – November/December:  Apply lime to balance soil pH for optimal grass growth, improve nutrient availability, strengthens plant cell walls which is vital for chlorophyll production and photosynthesis, and improves root penetration.

Pricing

Weed control and fertilization services are priced based on the size of the treatable area on your property.

We can manage the majority of weed issues that may appear in a lawn within the standard Lawn Care Program. This includes crabgrass, nutsedge, and kyllinga,as well as most common broadleaf weeds that may appear. Certain infestations may require different management strategies at an additional cost such as: Lawn Renovation, which is generally a kill-off of some or all of the lawn and reseeding, and specialty herbicides that treat specific, uncommon weeds. We do our best to identify these problems during the initial visit to avoid adding costs throughout the season.

We offer add-on services such as aeration, over-seeding, and lawn disease treatment for lawn damaging insects such as grubs, spittlebugs and armyworms at an additional cost.

Payment for our weed control program is due upon completion of service regardless of the method of payment.

Matt’s Lawn Care is not responsible for damage that is out of its control, such as that caused by heat stress, drought, lack of watering, or a lawn that’s been mowed too short (which can cause brown or bare-looking spots, weakened or dead grass or a lawn more vulnerable to weeds and disease).
